52 week photo challenge: a theme for every week.

One theme a week for a year. Where a daily challenge asks for a thing, a weekly one asks for an idea: something round, something red, something out of place. You have seven days to find your best take.

Updated October 2026

How it works

1

One theme, seven days.

Read the theme on Monday, look all week, pick your best shot by Sunday.

2

Interpret freely.

Something round can be a plate, a wheel or the moon. There is no wrong answer.

3

Shoot fresh.

Take new photos during the week rather than digging through old ones.

4

Keep the 52.

One photo per week makes a year you can scroll through in a minute.

Tips

Shoot more than one.

Try five takes during the week and keep the best.

Go literal, then go further.

Start with the obvious answer, then find a less obvious one.

Notice light changes.

The same street looks different at 8 am and 8 pm. Use the week.

Do it with friends.

Same theme, different eyes. Comparing on Sunday is the fun part.

Questions

What is a 52 week photo challenge?

It is one photo a week for a year, each week built around a theme. It suits people who want a photography habit without a daily commitment.

Can I start a 52 week photo challenge in the middle of the year?

Yes. Week 1 is whenever you begin. The themes are not tied to seasons or dates.

Do I need a real camera?

No. Every theme on this list works with a phone camera.

Is there an app for weekly photo challenges?

Rawly runs challenges every day: challenges on a theme created by people and brands, RAW NOW, and a Daily Event with one object for everyone. The community votes on the shots.
