December photo challenge: a prompt for every day.

Thirty-one prompts, one for each day from 1 December to New Year's Eve. Lights, paper, food and the end of the year, all things you can find at home or on the way. No snow required, so it works wherever you live.

Updated November 2026

How it works

1

One prompt a day.

Dec 1 to Dec 31, one photo a day. Follow the dates or shoot the list in any order.

2

Shoot it that day.

No old photos from your camera roll. The point is to notice December while it happens.

3

Any phone works.

Every prompt is something you can find at home, at work or on the way.

4

Keep the set.

Thirty-one photos make a small record of the month. Look at them together on New Year's Day.

Tips

Use evening light.

Lamps, windows and street lights after dark make warm, simple photos.

Get close.

Wrapping paper, a candle flame, a cookie. Small things fill the frame best.

Keep it real.

Shoot what is actually there, not a staged scene. The ordinary version is the one you will want to see later.

Do it with someone.

Same prompt, same day, two phones. Comparing shots in the evening is half the fun.

Want people to see it?

On Rawly, every day has something to shoot: challenges created by people and brands, RAW NOW, and a Daily Event where everyone gets the same object. Everything is shot live in the app, the community votes, and some challenges carry a prize pool.

This December list is separate from the Daily Event, which draws its own object every day.

Questions

What is a December photo challenge?

It is one photo a day for the 31 days of December, each with its own prompt. It is a light way to end the year with a photo habit, and you can do it with any phone.

Can I start late?

Yes. Join on any day and follow the dates, or shoot the list in order from wherever you start.

Does it work in the southern hemisphere?

Yes. No prompt needs snow or cold. Lights, wrapping, food and the end of the year work in summer too.

Is there an app for a daily photo challenge?

Rawly runs one every day of the year. Everyone gets the same everyday object at the same moment, shoots it live in the app, and the community votes on the photos. Rawly is free on iOS and Android.

Can I print the list?

Yes. The Print button above the list gives a clean, ink-friendly page with all 31 prompts.
